We are a vaccination family, because that is the right choice for us. But with this vaccine just being new, I'm not sure how I feel about it. More
research for me to do :)

I believe in vaccinations as well. They can be great, for example the polio vaccine, it helped to eradicate polio.
Chicken pox, although we did get the vaccine after much research, I still sit on the fence over as it is something that is easily handled by the body by most people, but just like the flu it can have devastating results. This H1N1 vaccine I will not be getting, for similar reasons, I do not get the annual flu shot either. If I had a compromised immune system I might give it a second thought. I rarely get the flu and coincidently the year I chose to get the flu shot as it was a strong recommendation of my previous employer, I got the flu and was quite ill. Having a full understanding of vaccines, I see them as a good thing but this is one vaccine I will be staying away from, for similar reasons. I think everyone should research all vaccines before going blindly to get them. Knowing is power, i like to have a good idea of what i am donig to my body. I know that what i am doing by drinking Pop, but i also want to know what i do when i am 'protecting' my body with these vaccines. They may be a great thing no only for me but the people around me as well, but i like to know why.

I agree with Alanna. Its all about the research you do and what you think is right. None of us here have compromised immune systems (technically mine can be
lower due to pregnancy but not enough to concern me).
My kids are not in daycare, we dont go out to public playplaces often (like Mcdonalds, energyplex etc) so they arent exposed a whole lot etc etc... We arent nonvaxing per se, we are just selective (like no chicken pox etc) |

Check out this link to what legislators are doing in the states.....scary!!! http://thebirdflupandemic.com/archives/1000-per-day-fine-and-30-days-in-jail-for-refusing-the-swine-flu-vaccine-in-massachusetts Here's an excerpt from a letter that I received in from NY state Assemblyman Joel Miller in reply to my concerns: I believe this vaccine provides excellent potential to save lives according to the statistics, in certain segments of our population. I believe it should be made available and that each pediatrician and physician should strongly recommend and insist on immunization when appropriate which would be everyone with rare exception. I believe this leaves far less flexibility in determining who is to be vaccinated. I believe that if a parent refuses to comply with the pediatrician or the physicians, they should be reported to the Department of Health. The Department of Health should have the right to mandate the need for this immunization. Scary, IMO

I can't decide my dd has a heart condition which is why we get the annual flu shot but because the H1N1 vaccine is so new I'm not sure. I'm going
to do more reseach and sit down with my doctor and discuss it with her first. They say that if you get your annual flu shot you are more likely to get the
H1N1. But is that just a scare tactic or what is that? It is a hard decision for me.

I can't decide either April but I don't have the factors you have. My thought the other day though was this ... the annual flu shot is not the same
every year. They make up that years shot according to what they believe are going to be the 3 influenza strains that pose the biggest threat. So if that is the
case then is the annual flu vaccine 'new' every year too?! should those be the same considerations as this 'new' H1N1 vaccine?! I don't
know!!

There was something or other on the news maybe a week ago, that if you had had the annual flu shot, you could be MORE susceptible for the H1N1. I'm like
Bonnie, and because they take the predicted 3 most common flus, you would think that someone at the CDC or whoever makes the vaccines, would have had the
foresight to include this one. But the vaccines for this year's flu was probably made last year, when the H1N1 wasn't prevalent.
If you are able to get ahold of someone in your DDs cardiology office April, they might be able to answer the question better for you than your family doctor. Having worked in the one here for a couple years, I can say the chances of talking to the doc are small, but his staff would know the answer. And then if he had any other concerns, he could call you directly. |

We get the annual flu shot as my son has respitory problems and illness means hospital. But I am unsure if we will be getting any this yr because h1n1 vaccine
is so new and the annual flu shot can make you more susceptible to h1n1. Waiting to hear from pediatrition for some feedback on what to do for my son.

We'll be getting the H1N1 shot this year. We don't usually get the flu shot, but the problem is that it's perfectly healthy young people that are
getting sick (and very rarely dying) from this flu, not those with compromised immune systems or the elderly. For us the risk of any bad side effects from the
vaccine are so negligible that it seems like a no-brainer to get it.
Listen to CBC's Cross Country Check-Up from this Sunday....it had some really good information in it. http://www.cbc.ca/checkup/this-week.html |

I agree; we will be getting it this year (most likely) as for us, the risks of the illness outweigh the side effects of the vaccine. We do not get normally get
the seasonal flu shot, because (to us) the risks of the seasonal flu are minimal.
As well, I'd really hate for either myself or DD to get really sick and require medical care that isn't available due to everyone else having the flu. This vaccine will protect us, as well as the people we share our lives, and the other moms and babies we socialize with. |

I have been doing more research into this vaccine and the virus itself and now i am sitting on the fence. I have to do some more research on the vaccine itself
to determine if i will infact get the shot.
